How do you deal with stress?

So many people try to relieve stress by only relaxing on the weekends and holidays when they are off of work for an extended period of time. This is not enough to reverse the damaging effects of stress. It must be relieved on a daily, or even hourly, basis to protect your body and mind.

Some ideas for quick and easy stress relief:

Deep Breathing - when anxiety, anger, or stress hit your heart pounds, you feel shaky, and you begin to over-react. Stop and take a long slow deep breath in through your nose and low slow exhale out through your mouth. Repeat 5 to 10 times. Relaxing your tongue against your teeth as you breathe provides an added benefit of calming and cooling the nervous system.

Ear Rubbing - when feeling nervous about an activity its hard to calm the mind and focus. Gently squeezing and rubbing the ear lobe can relieve tension and bring focus. Adding the sound "whoo-sah" while rubbing in circular motions can greatly increase the benefits.

Hand Clasp - when struggling to focus and remember everything that needs to be done anxiety pops up and makes it more difficult. Clasp hands together with fingers alternating. Squeeze hands together tightly, do not hurt yourself, and breathe slowly in and out and release. Repeat squeezing and breathing up to 5 times.


Recipe of the Week

Paleo Almond Crusted Pan Fried Chicken



• 4 chicken thighs

• 1 cup almond flour

• 2 eggs

• 1 tsp paprika

• 2 tsp garlic powder

• Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)

• Salt and pepper, as desired

• Cooking oil/fat of your choice


• Crack the eggs in a bowl and whisk.

• In another bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together (almond flour/meal, paprika, garlic powder, salt/pepper and cayenne pepper if you want a kick!).

• Dip the chicken thigh in to the bowl of eggs, then in to the flour mixture.

• Heat up your cooking oil (I used a mixture of coconut oil and butter , but if you are going for dairy free option, skip the butter and use coconut oil or olive oil instead.) in a pan.

• Once your oil is heated and ready, place your chicken pieces in to the pan slowly. Be careful here as the oil is hot and you don’t want to get burned!

• Cook the chicken thoroughly (about 10-12 minutes on each side) on medium high heat or until juices run clear. I used tongs for this as it makes it easier.

• And that’s it! When complete, put aside on some paper towels if you want to make it a little bit less greasy, but when I make this, I don’t even do that as they don’t usually turn out too greasy for me.

Dancing Gaia: The Nature of Movement & Meditation

We’ll begin class with deep breathing, energy building, and gentle stretching warm-ups. Class continues with a unique blend of Tai Chi, Yoga, Qigong, and Tae Kwon Do style movements. Then we finish each class with a cool down and seated hand posture practice. These classes are for anyone that wants to get fit without hurting themselves.
